Repair or Replace: Is it Worth Investing in Suction Pump Repairs?

At some point, dental practice owners may encounter suction issues that are diagnosed as being caused by problems with the suction pump – such as unusual noises like rattling or grinding, along with poor suction performance. While it may seem straightforward for a Dental Engineer to recommend a new pump, it is important to consider whether this is always the most suitable solution for the financial interests of the practice.

By carefully evaluating all available options, one can make an informed decision between repairing the existing pump or purchasing a new one. In many cases, noises like rattling or grinding may stem from worn bearings or a deteriorating impellor, components that can be replaced to extend the longevity of the suction pump.

We find it commonplace that our competitors advise that a pump is unrepairable and that the only option is to replace at very high expense, whereas in a high proportion of these cases we can install loan equipment and repair the clients own pump in our workshop facilities at a significantly lower cost.

We do far more than just fit a service kit! We strip a pump down to its bare bones, replace bearings, clean up parts, or replace as needed, and build the pump back up again before thoroughly testing on the bench.

We also then go on to advise of any improvements to practice procedures for maintenance to help ensure the longevity of the equipment and help avoid further problems down the line.

In our approach we ensure that good equipment is not simply discarded when it can easily and sustainably be repaired, helping keep costs down for the dental practice, and helping reduce waste.
